(Isn't that a great tour banner she put together?)

"There Are No Escape Pods, Captain" - Jordan Smith On NaNo, Loglines, And Life http://elishapress.com/blog/2016/07/09/there-are-no-escape-pods-captain-an-interview-with-jordan-smith/ If you recognized the title of this post, then you probably know Jordan Smith - whether you realize it or not. He's one of the people behind Month of the Novel, and also author of the popular writing books Finding The Core of Your Story and, recently, Loglines in the Wild. After reviewing the latter as part of Jordan's launch team, I invited him for an interview and he accepted.

Freedom... Forever? http://elishapress.com/blog/2013/08/19/freedom-forever/ While waiting in line at the post office, I noticed a display of stamp designs. The "value" of each stamp had been crossed out to cancel it for display purposes. This resulted in one particular stamp with such an ironic message that I just had to take a picture.

Freedom Forever?

As you can see, the word "Freedom" remains, but "Forever" has been crossed out. Thinking about this later, I realized that there's a more important point here than the obvious one. Our liberty in this world is indeed temporary, but not for political reasons. It is temporary because the world itself is temporary.

I love living in America. I love the freedom to follow and proclaim God's Word, and I consider the use of that freedom a solemn responsibility before the Lord. But one day, everything in this world - including our beloved Constitution - will be burned up and never seen again (Rev. 21:1). What liberty we enjoyed here will only be a memory. All the "kingdoms of the world" will finally become the Kingdom of our Lord (Rev. 11:15).

If there were postage stamps in that Kingdom, perhaps one would say "Freedom Forever." But if it did, the forever could never be crossed out or canceled - and the picture would not be an American flag. I think we all know what it would be.

"Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end..." - Isa. 9:7.

"If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed."  - John 8:36.

Profanity In Christian Fiction http://elishapress.com/blog/2016/02/15/profanity-in-christian-fiction/ Have you ever encountered curse words in a Christian novel? It happened to me for the first time a couple of weeks ago. The book, which I'm not going to name, was written by an acquaintance of mine who is a Christian and a homeschool graduate. What was that word doing in this book?

"What Would You Name Your Violin?" - An Interview With Amanda Tero http://elishapress.com/blog/2016/03/26/interview-with-amanda-tero/ My writer friend Amanda Tero has recently released the first novella in her new Orphan Journeys series, called Journey to Love. It's a sweet story, and I recommend it especially to the young ladies in the audience. (Relevant links to follow after the jump.) As part of Amanda's launch tour for the book, she consented to be interviewed here on Elisha Press. We did this a couple of months ago, so don't get confused by the references to cold weather.

Don't Let The Rat Read This: An Interview With Lydia Howe http://elishapress.com/blog/2016/05/02/dont-let-the-rat-read-this-an-interview-with-lydia-howe/ Today we're going to have a few questions with my friend Lydia Howe, author of Action Kid's Club plus Cave Secrets of the Pterodactyl and Cool Critters of the Ice Age (with her "adopted dad" Buddy Davis). She's also in the midst of rewriting and editing When Life Hands You Lymes, a fictional story based on her multi-year battle with Lyme disease. This is going to be a major work of some length, but Lydia has been kind enough to take time out for an interview in the midst. So let's get to it!

It's Here: "Susanna Don't You Cry" By Zachary McIntire http://elishapress.com/blog/2016/02/02/its-here-susanna-dont-you-cry-by-zachary-mcintire/ Susanna Don't You Cry, a debut novel by Zachary McIntire, is now the fifth in our growing family of Elisha Press titles. It's available through Amazon in print and Kindle editions.

What happens when a man deserts his family, then tries to sneak back into their lives after years apart? What happens when he discovers that his wife and daughter have already found Someone else - Someone who loves and wants him too? What happens when the hatred of an abandoned son leads him down the same path as his faithless father?

The Kincaids find out, and so will you when you enjoy this realistic and fast-paced contemporary novel. Geared toward teens and adults due to subject matter, Susanna is presented with grace and tact - and with the biblical perspective that alone can make sense of any story.

"From graffiti to the grace of God, from scandal to salvation, from hatred to hope, Zachary McIntire has woven the gospel into the very structure of this captivating novel. Yet there is no preachiness here, just a great story about some very human characters. Enjoy!" - Annie Kate Aarnoutse, Christian homeschool blogger and book reviewer.

But when Susanna and Kelly get their lives turned around by Jesus, Chuck doesn’t know what to think. And why is the rich stranger with the scarred face so interested in being his benefactor?

Failure and restoration.…

Why I Don't NaNo http://elishapress.com/blog/2015/12/01/why-i-dont-nano/ I've waited until the end of November to publish this post, because I have no desire to pour cold water on the hot enthusiasm of others. That only produces steam, which tends to burn the person pouring the water. Am I taking this metephor too far? Okay, moving on....
