"It is not often that I can recommend a book to virtually anyone"
I really want to encourage you to read this book. It is not often that I can recommend a book to virtually anyone. Jason's writing skills are very strong, and you truly feel like you know this family at the end. His biblical insight and the way he molds the characters with godly life lessons is a breath of fresh air. I love to read all kinds of literature, but sometimes feel let down by some Christian fiction that are only loosely Christian. There isn't a doubt where these characters find their wisdom and grace - from the Father above.

"Trademark gentle humor"
Jason McIntire has created another wholesome, engaging contemporary story that affirms traditional values, all done with the author's trademark gentle humor. The interesting plot - surrounding Christian movie-making as well as law internships - not only entertains but also encourages young people to think more deeply about the consequences of their behaviors and actions.
Because the novel focuses on the upper-teen members of the family, the story is of most interest to ages 13 and up. However, younger children would surely enjoy the majority of the story, especially the parts about the family as a whole. Indeed, this is a wonderful read-aloud story for the whole family - The story - the characters and their choices, their motives and their thoughts - provide a truly excellent jumping-off point for family discussions.
Overall, highly recommended. I'm planning on giving this book as a Christmas gift to a younger cousin.

"This is not a tract; it's a funny book for older teens"
This is an upbeat, funny, and thoroughly enjoyable book for Christian teens, whether homeschooled or not. Full of zany situations and colorful characters, it is a godly yet non-preachy exploration of what Christianity means in the nitty-gritty of beginning adulthood.
... discussing why one of the Mullerites cannot seem to control his temper even though his community has rules for this, Sarge explained it simply: Rules don’t work to keep sin at bay because sin is already inside the very hearts the rules are supposed to protect. "And the real Source of righteousness gets forgotten as more and more rules are added...." (241)
I couldn’t resist writing out those quotes, but once again I want to emphasize that, though these principles are foundational in Flight School, they are rarely in the foreground. This is not a tract; it's a funny book about older teens. There’s a pink VW with eyelashes over the headlights, an acting thug with a real gun, a mesmerizing law student, and group of real-life teens who love God and are learning what that means.

"We're all hoping for a third book"
(Ten-year-old) Eden's words today, when I said I needed her thoughts for this review, were, "Oh, I loved that book! It was so good!"
Liberty, age 12, also read it and loved it… high praise from one who rarely varies from books about horses these days. I heard from her about a bird funeral, how awesome the nickname "Peanut" is for an unborn baby is, the little jokes made, and about the birth of the baby. Liberty's a twelve year old girl – she finds entertainment in a different realm right now, shall we say. The birth scene contained nothing objectionable, and for Liberty, who was there at the birth of her baby sister and she’s now begging to be there when the baby I currently carry is born, it was by far the most fun part of the book. Oh boy.
Flight School wins high praise all around this house. We’re all hoping for a third book....

"Jason McIntire delivers another great book"
... Each character is faced with choices, and the results of those choices are sometimes good, sometimes bad. What will be the ultimate result of those choices?
Once again, Jason McIntire delivers another great book. It continues along in the same humorous, yet thought-provoking, style as his previous one, addressing some important issues, and answering some profound questions.
... I could so easily relate to the characters and understand the thought processes that led to their actions. Once again, we're brought back to the truth that we must daily surrender ourselves, look to the Lord for guidance, and seek to bring glory to Him.
